Sebastian Rodriguez

Sebastian Rodriguez is the Lead Engineer of the AI Pedagogy Project. He joined the project through an internship with the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, and helped facilitate its launch in 2023. He also works as a Researcher & Engineer for metaLAB (at) Harvard, and frequently collaborates with the Data Nutrition Project on AI research, education, and public engagement initiatives. He previously led engineering for two other projects related to pedagogy in higher education, including: the Failure: Learning in Progress Project at the University of Toronto, which provides open educational resources that help students embrace, learn, and bounce back from failure; and the REFLECT Project at the Society for Teaching & Learning in Higher Education, which helps educators visualize and reflect on their teaching practice.

In addition to AI and education, Sebastian’s research frequently intersects with the digital humanities, surveillance studies, disinformation, critical security studies, and human-computer interaction. He published a peer-reviewed paper on mass surveillance in the U.S., co-authored an SSHRC-funded policy report on the digital disinformation strategies of authoritarian empires, and has presented his research at a number of conferences, including the Digital Humanities Summer Institute Conference & Colloquium and the Association for Canadian Archivists Annual Conference. He was also an Undergraduate Fellow in Critical Digital Humanities at the University of Toronto, and has held Research Assistant appointments to various departments at the University of Toronto.

Sebastian received a Master of Science in Social Science of the Internet from the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford, and a Bachelor of Information from the Faculty of Information (iSchool) at the University of Toronto.
