Toward a Serendipity Machine: Supporting Creative Production with Generative AI
Generative AI technologies have transformed creative production by making it easier than ever to create media objects with little human effort. But if certain aspects of production can be automated, will “machine creativity” actually lead to less variety and more uniformity in the content we see? In this workshop, we will identify the possible harms of the creative use of AI, such as bias and homogenization, and share practical techniques to re-imagine AI as “a serendipity machine” that supports unexpected, divergent creativity.
