Forgive My Sin: I Talk to AI Way More Than to All People in My Life, Combined :(
This was an anonymous note I collected at a college campus this spring when asking about students’ relationship with AI. They say you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. What happens when one of those is an LLM chatbot?
This workshop will be part-presentation, part-discussion of how young people’s growing reliance on AI might be affecting their social and emotional development. I’ll discuss some of my findings from my project What We Tell AI, where I collected 400+ handwritten notes from strangers about their secret feelings and uses of AI. We’ll also discuss the changing social norms we’re noticing in our own communities and how to approach them.
